Working with chthonic spirits is not about summoning and enslaving spirits, nor is it about handing your judgement over to something more powerful than you.
It is relationship.
That means respect, reciprocity, consent and discernment have to sit at the centre of the work.
The beings encountered through chthonic practice are not tools, archetypes or spiritual vending machines. They have their own agency, boundaries, preferences and reasons for engaging – or not engaging – with us. Any meaningful practice begins by recognising that sovereignty belongs on both sides of the relationship.
My role is not to stand between you and the spirits you work with, speak for them, or make you dependent on me as an interpreter. I am here to help you navigate a terrain that is vast, including many entities, pantheons and practices. I am not claiming to be an expert on every chthonic entity and I am not here to tell you exactly who and what they are. I am here to help you develop confidence in your own skills, engage directly and build a practice that is genuinely your own.
Discernment is essential in this work, but it is not my role to judge the reality of your spiritual experiences or tell you what you did or did not encounter. My role is to help you explore those experiences with curiosity, recognise patterns, understand the beings and currents you are engaging with and learn to make your own informed judgements.
What I teach is how to approach spirits with respect, care and understanding without surrendering your own agency. I do not teach binding, forced contact or methods that treat a spirit’s consent as irrelevant. But I will help you to challenge, push back and maintain personal boundaries when working with these entities.
The Crossing can involve devotional work, ritual, divination, spirit communication, relationship-building and the development of personal spiritual practice. The form that takes will depend on who you are, who you are working with and what actually unfolds between you.
There is no single correct way to work with the Underworld.
There is only the responsibility to approach it with honesty, respect, discernment and the willingness to be changed by what you encounter.
