Silent Counselling is a technique that allows you to experience the benefits of deep introspection and shadow work without using speech as a necessary part of our work together.
In traditional shadow work, we use verbal counselling-style techniques to guide you towards the root of what you are suppressing.
Whilst verbal language is incredibly powerful, there are times when it can become a barrier to deep self-exploration. Silent Counselling removes that barrier, allowing for the descent into the subconscious in total or partial silence.

What is Silent Counselling?
Silent Counselling is a technique that works with the energy centres and highways of our body – the meridians and chakras – to clear energetic blockages and release stagnation in the energetic flow caused by unresolved trauma and negative emotional burdens. Silent Counselling reawakens the original spark – Sha – to push the movement of the flow of energy – Thren (or chi, prana) – through the meridians and chakras.
The technique was developed by Marjorie and John Cooper – both highly experienced and qualified Energy Psychologists – near Perth, Scotland. They developed this technique while working with a client who had experienced significant childhood abuse. This client’s trauma was so profound that it was simply not possible for her to talk about any of it.
Instead, they moved the focus away from forcing the client to verbalise their trauma and used bio-energetic feedback – a little-known technique in which the practitioner uses the body’s subconscious energetic responses, rather than the conscious mind, to provide simple yes/no answers to closed questions.

Most people are familiar with the fact that we carry deep emotions in our bodies – tension held in our shoulders, distress and anxiety felt in our stomach, or chronic back pain and digestive issues that can be associated with prolonged distress.
Silent Counselling uses a combination of the power of the mind – shifting negative thoughts to positive ones – visualisation, pressure points and breathing techniques to allow our body to begin to heal itself naturally.
Why choose Silent Counselling?
Silent Counselling is suitable for most people, but it is particularly suited to people who may have difficulty expressing themselves verbally or who have already spent a lot of time in talking therapies that have not yielded the necessary results for them.
As a neurodivergent individual myself, I have found Silent Counselling a wonderful technique for neurodivergent people. We often carry an enormous amount of emotion that can feel really overwhelming. But because there is so much going on at once, it can be difficult to categorise those feelings and adequately describe them, especially in therapeutic settings that are traditionally designed around neurotypical means of communication.
It is also an empowering and safe technique for people with prolonged emotional trauma, where continually talking about the trauma itself can put the body into fight-or-flight mode and keep it locked in the same emotional response. Silent Counselling removes the need to talk about the actual events that caused the symptoms the body is now carrying and instead focuses quietly on the feelings those thoughts bring up, which can aid healing at a holistic and subconscious level.
What can I expect from these sessions?

Silent Counselling is a gentle, non-invasive technique. It empowers you as the client to apply the technique to your own body following my instruction. This means that it can be applied just as effectively remotely as in person, as I do not need to physically connect with or manipulate your body. I only need to read the current of your body’s energetic signals; you are the one doing the physical work on the pressure points.
Unlike my Shadow Work, these sessions are very structured – another reason why some neurodivergent clients may prefer this technique over my more dynamic and emergent approach. We systematically work through the meridians and chakras, guided by the body’s bio-energetic feedback.
Silent Counselling does not have to be entirely silent. In fact, for some people it invites very loud expressions of emotion, including anger and frustration. The silent part simply means that you do not have to tell me anything about your story that you cannot or do not want to share.
My Silent Counselling is delivered as a minimum package of 2x 60-minute sessions.
Additional sessions can be arranged depending on your needs.
What I especially love about Silent Counselling is that it teaches you techniques you can continue to use at home long after our work together has finished. That independence was one of the things that attracted me to Silent Counselling in the first place, because it aligns so strongly with the wider ethos of The Forge: you leave with tools you can use for yourself, not a dependency on me.
What can you expect from me and what does the work require from you?
Whilst Silent Counselling is a gentle technique, that does not mean the work lacks depth. The descent through Silent Counselling can be just as deep as Shadow Work and can surface strong emotions, including generational trauma carried in the body. My role is to guide you through the structure and create a space where you feel safe to let those emotions rise without judgement.
In return, because much of this work is done in silence, you will need to bring radical honesty with yourself as much as with me. You must allow yourself to feel what you might otherwise have pushed away.
You must also trust the process. Because Silent Counselling can feel gentle on the surface, some of its effects may not become apparent during the session itself, but emerge hours or sometimes days later.
Equally, if something does not feel right, you must say so, so that we can adjust the techniques to suit your needs. You are not here for me. You are here for yourself.
Honest engagement, both during the sessions and with the homework in between them, will yield the best results.
